What is the dog training secret?
I’m not going to bull**** you the dog training secret doesn’t exist however….
If “the dog training secret” did exist it would be positive reinforcement.
Having a dog for your best friend and companion can be a rewarding experience that will last a lifetime. However, it’s important to start out training the right way so that your dog doesn’t get the wrong messages and end up being like a problem child always having to be yelled at and corrected. The bottom line is, your dog wants to do good all of the time, and would far rather make you happy than make you angry, all day long. As the master, it’s your job to teach your dog exactly what it needs to do to keep you happy all the time, and he’ll do it.
You Should Always Use Only Positive Reinforcement When Training Your Dog
This would have to be the number one mistake that many new dog owners make when trying to train their dog, they become negative and punish their dog with a variety of different things such as rolled newspaper, sticks and even shouting.
Yelling at a dog, striking a dog, or any other kind of punishment, can make a dog much more difficult to train in the future. The dog can become afraid of the owner, or afraid of making the owner mad, which immediately turns off the intelligent part of your dog’s brain and makes it harder for them to learn.
So the biggest secret to dog training is to use positive words, extra petting, and plenty of flavorful treats when trying to train your dog, and each time it has done something like a task correctly.
It’s Important To Have Just One Trainer To Start
No matter how many kids you have in your family, it’s really important that just one person starts out by training the dog correctly. And then the dog trainer should also spend some time training each of the other people in the household exactly how the dog was trained as well.
When you begin to train a dog they are listening carefully to your words, but they haven’t yet learned your language, and many words do sound similar, especially to a dog.
If you’ve decided to make the word sit one of your commands, then everyone that talks to the dog needs to use the same exact command spoken in nearly the same tone, and not use sit down, sit up, sit over there or other confusing sentences.
It is also important to always act immediately anytime there’s some kind of accident, such as urinating in the house. Finding the urine and an hour later is not going to be a training exercise that will be worth your dog’s time. Catching it immediately is the only way it works.
However, since most dogs need to urinate and defecate almost immediately when starting on a walk, the absolute best way to train them is to take them outside and have them run or walk until they’ve finished their business. Praise them profusely and give them a treat so they know they’ve done the right thing at the right time, and that is one of the secrets to training a dog right.
Even if you haven’t had a lot of experience with training your dog the main secret is to stay positive, use plenty of treats, and profusely congratulate and praise your dog anytime they perform a task as requested. The number one thing that most dogs need is your attention and love and they will do almost anything to get it. It’s up to you as the master to give the love and attention your dog needs while giving it instructions so it knows how to act as well.
